LibreOffice Writer – Create a basic template

Template

A template is a document type that creates a copy of itself when you open it. You can create your own business plan template, letter template etc. and save your time.

Create Template

We’ll create our own letter template with LibreOffice Writer. This template can be used when you write a letter. Please follow below instructions.

  1. Click here to open Application Menu.
  2. Click Office
  3. Click LibreOffice Writer to run it
  1. Click Insert. (It’s located near View)
  2. Click Field
  3. Click Date to add a date into your letter.
  1. Date is added here.
  2. Align it right.

After add a date to our letter, a Greeting will be added into the letter

  1. Click Insert.
  2. Click Field.
  3. Click More Fields to add a text
  1. Click Functions
  2. Click Placeholder
  3. Click Text
  4. Type a text into Placeholder
  5. Click Insert
  6. Click Close
  1. Your placeholder is inserted.
  2. Type a greeting text before place holder.
  3. Add new text placeholder like we did it before.
  4. Type a text for closing
  5. Type your name. You can add your address or other information

Save your template

You should save your template after designed it.

  1. Click File
  2. Click Templates
  3. Click Save Template to save it.
  1. Give a name your template.
  2. Click My Templates
  3. To save it, click Save

Open your template

You can use your template to save your time.

  1. Click File
  2. Click Templates
  3. Click Open Template
  1. Choose your template from the list.
  2. Click Open to use it.
